Finally, an old-fashioned Canadian winter

Over the holiday season let’s call to check on a friend, take a plate of cookies to someone who is in a nursing home, hospital or housebound.

Seems a long time since we have had a good old-fashioned Canadian winter.

Snow has been pretty scarce during past Decembers with a covering of the white stuff followed almost immediately with a melt removing all signs of winter. This year we have had more of what we think of as Christmas weather. Starting early the snow has been constant with added layers often.

The other day someone at the post office said, “I’ve had just about enough of this snow,” to which I quickly responded, “This is what it is supposed to be like for a good Canadian winter.” He shrugged, smiled and agreed.

Without snow our minds just don’t comprehend it’s really winter. We just don’t get into the Christmas spirit so the holiday sneaks up on us. This year with the plentiful, wonderfully wintery, snowy weather we were actually looking forward to the holiday rather than........
