Dejonghe: Memories of Dad prompts trip down memory lane

Like you, the loss of someone you love is never far from your mind no matter how long ago it was.

My Dad died August 1, 1988.

Like you, the loss of someone you love is never far from your mind no matter how long ago it was. There are many things each day which remind me of him. The recent smell of smoke was so reminiscent of camping trips and Dad making bacon and eggs for breakfast, on an open fire, in his special ordered 24-inch fry pan.

Opening of trout season reminds me of collecting dew worms for a week and then going to bed after supper only to have Dad wake us up at midnight to go fishing in Brandy Creek, a tributary of Big Creek, which ran through our LaSalette farm.

Every time I eat macaroni and cheese it reminds me he would smother it with brown sugar and pretend it was rice pudding because he didn’t like macaroni and........
