Common sense, please

Thursday is Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

It’s not just about steps, ramps and entrances. I am sure everyone knows, even those who do not have mobility issues, how difficult it can be to get through some doors, in and out of bathroom stalls, cars, especially the back seat, restaurant booths, confessionals, photo booths, rides at the fair and some chairs.

Thinking we are all built the same is just stupid. A door that opens into a tiny bathroom stall, with the paper dispenser on the open wall, leaves no room for the person entering. Don’t even get me started on toilets that are too high or too low. I avoid restaurants where the tables are at my chin or the seating is so low enjoying a meal is challenging and awkward. Don’t do photo booths and fair rides anymore but do remember how cozy those places can be. Back then cozy may have been a good thing but these days not so much.

I recognize, from first-hand........
