ROBINET: Wintering in good ol’ CK
I still can’t decide whether it’s an upside or a downside, but one of the consequences of my self-imposed boycott of the U.S. is that unlike some previous winters which have included a sunny Florida getaway with friends, this one is being spent fully in Chatham-Kent.
And how nice that it’s coincided with what must be the coldest and snowiest winter here in recent memory!
As I write this on a frigid Sunday morning, I’m in the chilliest room in the house, which happens to be my office. It’s nice enough in the summertime, with a door that opens onto the back deck, but in wintertime, the temperature is degrees (Celsius!) colder than anywhere else.
But, they say suffering is good for the soul, and so I soldier on, without complaint. OK, almost without complaint.
A glance at my phone tells me it is currently -15 C outside, and I’m in my indoor warm weather gear which ain’t pretty, but I have no plans to leave the house today.
Yesterday was a different story as we had not just hockey but a fundraiser pancake breakfast beforehand.
Thanks to Mother Nature’s generous bounty, there was a huge pile of snow in the church parking lot, the likes of which have not been seen – at least by me – for many years.
Naturally, Snow Mountain........
