ROBINET: When a plan comes together

After a 20-year plus hiatus from minor hockey, most Saturdays now find me and assorted family members at one arena or another to watch two of the “greatlings” on ice in their debut seasons.

This follows two years of Canskate where they finally learned how to skate, despite a five-year-old Kamron’s assertion after a disastrous Mitchell’s Bay amateur hour ice skating lesson that, “I’m never doing this again.”

Considering it’s their first year, both Kamron and his sister are doing well, but on this particular weekend of sub-Arctic conditions, I knew it wasn’t exactly going to be a joy to get up early to head to Tilbury.

The good news was, as they’re both in the same league this year, their teams were actually playing each other, which meant a rare “one and done.”

That Sunday, we were looking at another freezing outing, this time to Adventure Bay in Windsor for Kamron’s delayed ninth birthday present.

But, as the weather conditions started to look like they could take a bad turn on that day, I had the brilliant idea that we could turn Saturday into the ultimate one and done and do it all!

We were already going to be in Tilbury, and we would have plenty of time to get to the waterpark as our goal was to hit the discounted price for the 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. time slot.

I rolled out the plan to the other two adults involved – my sister Roseanne and the kids’ mum........
