Well, here we are. Almost at the end of November already, and that can mean only one thing.
It’s Christmas bazaar time!
Like many people, I love this time of year, with all the festive feels, the sights, the smells, the crass consumerism (OK, I don’t love that, but it’s all part of the package) and the spirit of generosity and goodwill that permeates Chatham-Kent.
Year-round we prove ourselves to be a community that cares, but the holiday season is when we really shine and this year it’s going to be more important than ever for all of us to work together to make the holidays special for everyone.
And now, I shall effortlessly circle back to the original subject of this column, the Christmas bazaar.
Throughout my many decades of newspapering, I have covered Christmas bazaars, and as I type this, I’m wondering if anybody even calls them bazaars anymore!
And, because I’m a curious gal, and I’m very excited not to be writing about council matters this week, I took a moment to Google the word bazaar to confirm what I thought I knew and that is the origin of the word is a market in a Middle Eastern or Asian country.
