RHODES: Prince Edward Hotel survived past the farm market era

Recently I told you about the ancient North America Hotel which stood at what is now 75 Thames St.; this would be on the north side of the street, at the point where Thames Street follows the bend in the river and turns from a west to east route, to a south to north direction.

The North American Hotel had a competitor located almost to the immediate north of it.

This hotel was known as the Prince Edward Hotel.

These were both wooden fabrications with the second institution being substantially longer but only of two floors in height where the North American Hotel was three and a half levels.

Both hotels catered to the farm trade emanating from Dover and Chatham Townships and doing business on the busy Chatham Market Square.

Both hotels featured the critical offerings of cheap rooms, cheap meals and cheap stabling.
