I remember the Chatham Drive-In Movie Theatre, located on Creek Road in Harwich across the creek from Maple Leaf Cemetery.
I also remember my first visit to this motion picture emporium.
It was the early 1950s.
Beginning in the morning my brother Jimmy started telling me about our great adventure to the drive-in which was to take place that evening; it was a Saturday in the spring of 1953.
I was not sure as to what to expect but I knew it had to be a good thing.
I was five, I knew nothing about drive-ins. Jimmy, on the other hand, was nine and was an expert, according to Jimmy, on everything and had particular knowledge related to the consumption of spinach, turnips and broccoli, the overconsumption of which, he insisted, caused malaria.
He did not like those foods. I did, and I should have suspected diversionary propaganda.
But on the subject of drive-in movies, he was unexpectedly........
