Each Remembrance Day we honour all those military men and women who gave their lives to keep Canada free.

Each Remembrance Day we honour all those military men and women who gave their lives to keep Canada free. It is certainly a worthy gesture and it is unfortunate that it is only once a year.

As each year passes, fewer and fewer veterans of the Second World War and other conflicts remain. As these vets pass, their stories and memories will fade as well unless we all make a concerted effort to preserve them.

The Blenheim Military Museum, local legions, veterans, cadets and people like local military historian Jerry Hind are doing a wonderful job of collecting, commemorating and preserving their memories so we never forget their sacrifice.

Paul Gross’s film, Passchendaele, (released a few years ago now) has a Canadian bent to it that goes a long way to bring to modern minds the absolute horror that trench warfare must have been. I hope every young person gets a chance to see it. Portions of this film might make a great Remembrance Day program and........
