Gilberts: Plaquing initiative sparks community spirit
Since 2022, the Chatham-Kent Heritage Network has erected 25 plaques which are located around the municipality.
If you are a regular reader of this column then you already know about the plaquing project that I have been involved in for the past four years.
Since 2022, the group that I formed, the Chatham-Kent Heritage Network, has erected 25 plaques which are located around the municipality. For every one of these plaques, we have worked, mostly with members of the Network who live in the various villages, towns or countryside that makes up Chatham-Kent.

The content of the plaques have therefore come from the people who live in that place. They are not arbitrarily erected because someone from away has decided it is needed. Those plaques represent the story of those places.
We’re not saying that the only things that happened in these places are what’s on the plaque. Certainly history is much richer than that. But each person/group has decided that this is one thing that the public needs to know about them. They’re not always happy stories, but they are designed to make you say, when you walk away, “Wow,........
