The Irony of a Mask Requirement When You’re Mentally Ill

God, I miss lipstick. I miss the opportunity to brighten up my face with a generous swipe of MAC Spice It Up. The only chance I get to wear lipstick during this lockdown are on Zoom calls. The rest of the time my mouth is hidden behind a white cotton mask, which I don’t want to soil with makeup. And what would be the point of it, anyway, if no one is able to admire the lift lipstick gives to my pallid complexion, the luminosity it lends to my smile?

I find it tremendously ironic that I’m now mandated to wear a mask in public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The truth is, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t wear a mask of some sort—a facade of normalcy that I’ve carefully........
