Adult siblings can become estranged. Common causes are different personalities and lack of common interests.
Old resentments can also fuel the distance. Sometimes as children age, opportunities open up to reconcile.
Parents can assist by helping the children understand why they parented the way they did.
Both Jared and Maggie would agree they were never close growing up. They rarely played together; they had those typical arguments when one crossed the imaginary line down the middle of the car's backseat on long trips, or over who ate all the ice cream. But then, the parents could quell the explosions, or simply pick one up and put them in their room.
Now, as adults, Jared and Maggie obviously no longer fight over the back seat, largely because they are rarely in the same place at the same time. They have little contact, and when they do, it is usually a text about what the other is getting mom or dad for Christmas or birthdays.
