In my work as a licensed therapist and Employee Assistance professional, one of the most common issues I encounter across all employee levels is the challenge of navigating relationships with immediate supervisors. The importance, impact, and influence of this relationship cannot be overstated. For many individuals, it is a more significant factor in job satisfaction than pay, benefits, or overall working conditions.

It is often said that “people don’t leave jobs; they leave supervisors.” This statement reflects the weight this relationship carries and helps explain why so many individuals report experiencing stress at work. While much of the work environment is beyond an employee’s control, how one engages with a supervisor is an area where meaningful improvement is possible.
