Why Employees Should Aspire to Be Treated Like Computers

Have you ever wondered why your workplace seems to care more about its computers than it does about you? Computers are treated like royalty; at even the slightest hint of a problem, the (overworked) IT team will be sent to jump in for an immediate fix. Meanwhile, you could be overworked, stressed and burnt-out but left to struggle with rising emotional strain and deteriorating well-being.

Following are three real-world examples that demonstrate how starkly this difference plays out and why it’s time you should be treated with, at least, the same urgency and care as those precious machines.

Reporting that your computer is glitching is something you don't have to think of twice, it doesn't carry the risk of backfire and the tech department will usually jump in to fix it so your computer, and you, can keep running smoothly. But when you or employees around you are ‘glitching’ because you're overworked, stressed or dealing with incivility and harassment, you should think very carefully if and to whom to report this to.
