A news junkie all my life, I opt for a daily saturation. With three subscriptions and all kinds of trusted online news sources, there’s a definite addiction. But lately, it all feels too much.

Sure, knowing what’s going on matters, but collectively, what’s happening in Ukraine, Gaza and south of the border is overwhelming. So, I set a task for myself: to find some news that sparks gratitude.
Via the Deep Roots Music folks, I heard recently about a GoFundMe effort on behalf of singer Coco Love Alcorn. She had performed to wide approval here and has strong Berwick connections, so her serious cancer diagnosis registered with many.
Funds began to roll in immediately and last time I checked, the total was more than $185,000.
Her reaction was to say her heart was cracked wide open.
“I have been crying big happy tears of love and hope and relief and wonderment, on and off for the last 24 hours. I feel so held, and lifted, and … not alone.”
Before starting chemotherapy on Dec. 31, she began writing a new song, calling it, Warrior Spirit, “because I am feeling bolstered by my community and oh so strong!”
Her supporters here in the Valley wish her a full recovery.
