In 2015, Trudeau’s Liberal government came to power. His motto over time was “Spend, baby, spend.” The provincial governments, like a bunch of lemmings, followed his lead.

P.E.I., with no giant tax base, is now around $3.7 billion in debt, paying $171 million a year in interest. Our main industries are agriculture, fisheries and tourism. The agriculture industry has been under pressure for years; the fisheries face tariffs and the oyster industry is on the verge of collapse, thus leaving tourism as the biggest driver of our economy. Sixty per cent of our total budget goes to salaries and benefits. It baffles one’s mind as to the number of personnel receiving over $100,000 salaries.

Governments supposedly act in the best interest of taxpayers not the whims of their party. For fear of being ostracized, not one government MLA of any stripe has introduced a bill to get the spending under control.

Economic restraints are warranted. Time to put a freeze on all spending and special warrants. The public sector must shrink.

Our biggest problem seems to be the upper-level overpaid........
