Re: A question of clawbacks, March 26

Reading a recent article, it now  becomes clear why the City of Charlottetown is hell bent on eliminating the zoning system and promoting four units to a lot as of right in residential neighborhoods anywhere in the city, as per the new official plan.

The city took the money from the Housing Accelerator Fund to concoct the new plan, which is now in the last stages of being approved.

In this “democracy” two levels of government (feds and the City of Charlottetown) with the stroke of a pen, are degrading, without a vote, approval or meaningful consultation, the quality of life and economic status of thousands of citizens living peacefully in family neighbourhood across the city.

The citizens have a last chance to scream. Consultants, not the council, are holding meetings : Wednesday April 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Confederation Centre and Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m.at the West Royalty Community Centre.

The eastern end of town apparently is out of luck.

The irony in all this is, that the housing crisis is over on P.E.I. by now, but the changes to residential neighbourhood will........
