LETTER: Selling Canada’s airports is a bad idea
It is concerning to hear that Prime Minister Mark Carney is considering the sale of Canada’s airports to private investors. Airports are not just infrastructure — they are vital national and regional economic engines. Any rationale for privatization falls short when weighed against the financial successes and positive economic impacts of Canada’s not-for-profit, community-based airport authorities.

Under the National Airports Policy of the 1990s, approximately 30 major airports — along with many regional ones — were transferred from Transport Canada to local, arms-length authorities. These organizations have since financed tens of billions of dollars in airport improvements through airport-generated revenues such as landing........
