Jeers to U.S. President Donald Trump and those who parrot his comments for suggesting that Canada did not fill an important role in Afghanistan. The daughter of P.E.I. residents, Capt. Nichola Goddard, who was killed in action along with 157 other Canadian soldiers is proof that this country and its military made great sacrifices to the cause. P.E.I.’s Lennie Gallant described her parents, Sally and the late Tim Goddard, as friends in a Facebook post highlighting the dedicated selflessness of Goddard and her comrades. Gallant, who performed for the troops in Kandahar and Kabul in 2008, wrote, “The experience of being in a war zone was rather intense, though I was only there for a few days. I am humbled by those who did full terms of duty there, often on the front lines, and may they never again have to hear how their service and their sacrifices were so unappreciated.”
