CHEERS AND JEERS: Jeers to the P.E.I. government for Imagination Library miscue
Jeers to the P.E.I. government for the stress it caused Island families over Imagination Library funding. The program that provides monthly books to preschoolers in P.E.I. did not make the cut in the April 16 budget document for the 2026-27 fiscal year. After an outcry from parents and the P.E.I. Literacy Alliance, which runs the program, government quickly reversed its decision and said it will continue the annual $200,000 grant and find a cut elsewhere. Both the decision to axe the funding and the quick reversal indicate a government and an Education Department that didn’t dig into their budgets and identify possible repercussions before presenting them to the public.
