Election 2026: They are almost off and running

As the old year exits, a growing number of people in Peterborough are preparing to run in next October’s municipal election.

So far, only Coun. Dave Haacke has made it clear that he absolutely will not be running again.

Earlier, Coun. Gary Baldwin indicated the same thing, even getting rid of his election signs. He recently said that he regrets that action. This suggests one of two things: that Jeff Leal will take another crack at the mayor’s office, despite some understanding that he was only planning on being there one term, or that his son, Bradon, will be running in either Ashburnham or Otonabee.

That way, if the younger Leal wins, his father’s old buddy, Gary, will be around to mentor him. That is assuming, of course, that Baldwin can hold onto his seat in Ashburnham.

Which may be a big assumption for........
