Adding more Alto train options roils already murky waters |
My head nearly exploded when I watched an Instagram reel from MPs Emma Harrison and Mark Gerretsen on Sunday. He’s advocating for an Alto train stop in Kingston and she’s asking for another public consultation about the project in Norwood.
First, why introduce more options when the public is already flipping out over the breadth of the proposed route? And it’s pretty clear that the people in Norwood oppose it. Do we really need another meeting to say so?
Honestly, this train debate has gone completely off the rails. Why? Because it seems like every farmer between here and Montreal thinks it will cut off access to their property.
Public consultation would be far more effective if everyone weren’t screaming about protecting their own self interests. We would be further ahead to have a defined route, with a Plan B or C.
Instead, there is panic from the lakeshore to landowners north........
