We want changes that help, not hurt, our children

On gaining office, the Ford government signalled its intentions about its regard for children by immediately abolishing the Office of the Child Advocate. Since then, there have been a series of cuts to vulnerable children and youth in the education system, to services for those with disabilities, and a billion dollars has been removed from Children's Services.

Now children's services through Public Health and Child Care are at risk as many are being downloaded to municipalities, which are ill-equipped to absorb further spending. Public health services provide support to infants, mothers, teenage mothers, families at risk, and child nutrition programs, all needed and valuable programs. But the most far- reaching changes are those to early education and care, as municipalities will find it challenging to maintain the current level of child care subsidies.

This downloading of some costs to municipalities brings to an end........
