Good eats, yard sales and blue whales
The Saturday morning of the May long-weekend in Norwood has traditionally been a treasure hunter’s dream with dozens of yard sales taking place throughout the streets.
The last couple of years, the weekend has been a bit of a soggy and damp one. However, this is the year Mother Nature graced us with some sunshine and pleasant temperatures, providing the perfect opportunity for any entrepreneurs planning on selling off their unneeded items.
The Norwood Lion’s Club was no exception, hosting its annual combination yard sale and barbecue at Norwood Lions Park. The club’s efforts were rewarded with many devoted bargain hunters stopping by to search for unique items from the tables of treasures, with many also enjoying a tasty breakfast sandwich or (later in the morning) a grilled burger, hot dog, fries or other treats, all expertly prepared on the Lions’ barbecue grills.
This year also featured the opening-day return of the Norwood Market. A variety of vendors were set up in the parking lot across from the park and the Lions’ barbecues. Although this made the parking situation a little tricky, the stalls of artisan and home products were a welcome addition for treasure hunters. The added bonus of live entertainment also helped to foster some community spirit.
The market will run........
