What does 2026 have in store for the hockey world?

2026 has arrived, and there is no shortage of excitement in the hockey world. Whether it’s the Olympic Winter Games, the NHL playoffs inching closer or the race to the Memorial Cup, fans should be ecstatic to see what transpires in the new year.

Here is a list of 10 milestones, accolades and championships I’d like to see come to fruition:

There is nothing better in the hockey world than watching the best on best. It’s also spectacular observing the likes of Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon on the same team.

I’m hoping a magical moment such as Crosby’s overtime heroics in Vancouver in 2010 against the U.S. and Ryan Miller presents itself in Italy. It’s time for another Olympic gold. We may finally see Crosby and McDavid accomplish that feat together in February.

We all know Father Time is undefeated and Alex Ovechkin has plenty of miles on his odometer. However, the Great 8 continues to defy the odds and is still an elite offensive player in the NHL.

After passing Wayne Gretzky’s 894 goals last season, the 40-year-old continues to add goals to his record. Here’s hoping he continues to find the back of the net throughout 2026, and makes a push for 1,000 tallies before his retirement.
