Incredible turn of events for Mitch Marner

Mitch Marner departed the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 30, 2025 courtesy of a sign-and-trade transaction with the Vegas Golden Knights. The former London Knight phenom agreed to a lucrative eight year, $96-million (U.S.) deal with the Golden Knights. 

During his nine years with the Leafs, Marner amassed 221 goals and 741 points in 657 regular season games. He also added 63 points in 70 post-season contests. 

Despite his offensive wizardry, Leafs fans claimed the Markham-born right winger could not elevate his game when it mattered the most. Marner was regularly scrutinized for taking several delay-of-game penalties in the post-season, for shooting the puck over the glass. Others claimed the 29-year-old’s style of play was not conducive to post-season hockey. Many believed Marner had “one foot out the door” while waiting for his contract to expire with the Leafs.
