New book celebrates 125 years of lawn bowling in Peterborough
Trent Valley Archives (TVA) located at 567 Carnegie Ave., invites everyone to its open house and launch for its newest book, “Bowling on the Green — 125 Years of Lawn Bowling in Peterborough” on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The book, by archivist Dr. Elwood Jones and member Steve Russell, is available for purchase for $45 at the Lawn Bowling Club or TVA.
“Over its 125 years of existence, the Peterborough Lawn Bowling Club (PLBC) is a remarkable barometer of the lives of Peterborough’s professionals, businessmen, entrepreneurs and employees. From overcoming difficulties of site, expertise, lighting and lawn maintenance beginning in 1901 at the Stevenson Greens to their current site on McDonnel St., the club was fortunate in receiving support from many sectors of Peterborough society,” reads a press release for the book launch.
