Folk ballads the topic of upcoming Trent Valley Archives AGM

Trent Valley Archives invites the community to its AGM to see and hear musician and music scholar Dr. Allan Kirby. Kirby will perform and discuss early folk ballads, and talk about their arrival from Ireland and other old countries and how they were adapted once they arrived here.

This free presentation takes place Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at Highland Park Cemetery Visitor Centre, located at 2510 Bensfort Rd.

“These unique songs and tunes generated interest from musicologist Charles Louis Seeger Jr. (Pete Seeger’s father) a professor at Harvard. Subsequently, audio recordings were made by noted Canadian folklorist Edith Folke at P.G. Towns’ General Store in Douro, and throughout Peterborough County from 1956 to 1964. Dr. Kirby wrote his PhD thesis at Carleton University on the subject,” reads a press release for the event.

The presentation is open to the public, but the AGM portion of the evening is only open to Trent Valley Archives members. Light refreshment will be........
