In Balochistan, the distance between a patient and a hospital can be measured not merely in kilometres, but in chances of survival. A pregnant woman waiting for emergency care, a child missing a vaccine, or a patient needing specialist treatment may find that geography itself has become a barrier to healthcare. In a province where communities are scattered across an enormous landscape, healthcare is not simply a question of building hospitals; it is about ensuring that those hospitals can actually reach the people who need them.

Balochistan’s health crisis has deep structural roots. Its vast geography, sparse population, and poor road connectivity make healthcare delivery expensive and difficult. Yet geography alone cannot explain why so many communities continue to struggle for basic medical services. Years of inadequate investment, shortages of doctors, and weak healthcare infrastructure have created a system in which access to quality treatment remains deeply unequal.

The consequences are particularly severe for mothers and children. Balochistan continues to face serious maternal-health challenges, with rural women especially vulnerable to delayed treatment and inadequate obstetric services.
