Pakistan’s textiles: Trust and compliance

PAKISTAN’S textile industry stands today as one of the country’s greatest economic success stories, demonstrating resilience, innovation and an unwavering commitment to international labour, environmental and sustainability standards. As the backbone of Pakistan’s exports, the textile sector employs millions of workers and supplies some of the world’s leading international brands. Recently, the UK-based advocacy organization Label Behind Labour published allegations claiming that Pakistan’s garment export industry suffers from systemic wage violations, forced overtime and ineffective compliance systems.

Pakistan’s export manufacturers operate in one of the most heavily audited industries in the world. Factories supplying international retailers are regularly assessed under globally recognized certification frameworks, including SA8000, WRAP, SMETA, BSCI, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OEKO-TEX, GOTS........
