Access to Sindh’s rural areas |
Access to rural Sindh remains a persistent challenge. Whenever I get the opportunity to return to my village, the journey itself becomes a painful reminder of long-standing neglect. Seeing the deteriorated condition of most rural roads across Sindh is deeply distressing. All routes leading to my village, Umar Bhayo-Garello in Taluko Bakrani, district Larkano, are little more than earthy paths, dirt tracks or gravel roads. These routes lack basic engineering standards and are extremely vulnerable to weather conditions, particularly floods and seasonal extremes. During rains or flooding, mobility becomes nearly impossible, cutting villages off from nearby towns and essential services and reinforcing a sense of isolation that rural communities continue to endure.
Poor infrastructure exacerbates poverty and inequality in the province by restricting the movement of people and goods and limiting access to essential services such as markets, healthcare and education. A........
