ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered the authorities to transfer Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, to the Adiala Jail from the Bani Gala residence, which had been declared sub-jail.

IHC Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb announced the ruling on a petition filed by Bushra Bibi, seeking her transfer to the jail, where PTI founder has been incarcerated for months.

The verdict on the petition was reserved on May 2 after hearing arguments from the both sides. The superintendent jail expressed inability to keep her in the prison facility due to overcrowd and security issues.

Justice Aurangzeb has nullified the notification declaring Bushra Bibi’s residence Bani Gala as a sub-jail.

Bushra Bibi was placed under house arrest at Bani Gala residence on January 31 after she was convicted and awarded 14-year jail sentence in the Toshakhana case.

On Feb 6, she moved the high court against the notification to declare Bani Gala sub jail and expressed her readiness to serve her jail sentence in the Adiala jail.

After hearing arguments, the high court set aside the notification and ordered the authorities to shift him to the Adiala jail.
