Gaza war: Fragile ceasefire
THE ongoing sufferings of the Gazans are not ending due to Israel’s aggressive designs against innocent, unarmed Palestinians and its regional agenda.
The continuity of Israeli forces’ killing of Palestinians alarms about the failure of President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the two-year devastating asymmetrical warfare between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Besides, Netanyahu’s sustained militaristic approach towards the neighbors exposes the limits of President Trump’s initiative to usher in a new era of peace in the Middle East. Though he backed and assisted Israel’s successful operations against Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis Iran, he seems unsuccessful in promulgating a stable ceasefire in the region. Are the dynamics of deepening instability, not peace, unleashing a second phase of genocide of the Palestinians?
Since the beginning, the fragile ceasefire has been repeatedly violated. Israel has continued bombardment, mass starvation blocked humanitarian aid across Gaza. On December 06, 2025, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani warned that negotiations to reach the US-backed truce in Gaza were at a “critical moment.” He opined that “We cannot consider it yet a ceasefire. A ceasefire cannot be completed unless there is a full withdrawal of the Israeli forces – (until) there is stability back in Gaza, people can go in and out – which is not the case today.” He correctly concluded that there is a pause rather than a ceasefire.
