Finally, Ottawa city councillors have agreed to desperately needed and long overdue repairs to the Aberdeen Pavilion, popularly known as the Cattle Castle. The fact that the decision was made earlier this month with no apparent controversy marks the end of decades of city councils struggling to accept that the one of Ottawa’s unique historic buildings must be maintained.

Perhaps it was because the staff recommendations for what will be a two-year, multi-million-dollar restoration came without a price tag. That’s expected this fall.
The anticipated repairs are extensive, including replacement of the metal roof tiles; repairs to the decking under the roof tiles; metalwork repairs and reinforcement; repair of windows; new doors and replacement of the concrete floor slab. Other than that, the building is in great shape.
