It has been a bad few days for Ottawa politicians. First, Carleton MPP Goldie Ghamari was ejected from the Ontario Progressive Conservative caucus, ostensibly over an ill-advised meeting with a right-wing extremist. West Carleton-March city councillor Clarke Kelly had a bit of a meltdown over little kids making noise outside his office window, then practically wrote the textbook on how not to do damage control.

In Ghamari’s case, the question is not why she was ejected now, but why it took so long. Premier Doug Ford referred to “repeated instances of serious lapses in judgment and a failure to collaborate constructively with caucus leadership and as a team member.”

The incident that was the tipping point was an online meeting with a dodgy character........
