Oilers can’t punch own ticket to playoffs, lose 1-0 to Kings: Recap, Reaction and Highlights

The Edmonton Oilers no longer control their fate to finish first in the Pacific Division.

On Saturday afternoon, the Oilers played their final road game of the season, ending a three-game road trip against the Los Angeles Kings. The low-scoring affair saw just one goal, as the Kings defeated the Oilers 1-0. Let’s take a look at what went on in this one.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Oilers allowed the first goal. Evan Bouchard received a pass from Mattias Ekholm at the point. Artemi Panarin put immediate pressure on the Oilers’ defender, forcing a turnover for a breakaway. He beat Connor Ingram with a forehand shot from the hash marks.

This game is best described as a cagey affair, a typical Kings’ game. There were plenty of hard hits and some chipiness, but not a whole lot of scoring through 40 minutes.
