A long time ago, while on a trip to Berlin, I visited the studio of Tacita Dean and wrote about her for this publication on the occasion of an exhibition at the New Museum. Dean’s studio wasn’t sprawling, the main features I recall being a big analog editing deck and film reels everywhere. We discussed our mutual love of 16mm film, its warmth and the emotions associated with disintegration, which is felt in all of her work.
