Maternity 'investigation' isn't enough for Nottingham families - the PM should listen

On Monday, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced a new "rapid" national investigation into maternity failures, promising harmed families will "get the truth and the accountability they deserve". Those affected in Nottingham were left disappointed by move, and have demanded a meeting with the Prime Minister. The government should probably take notice, argues Nottinghamshire Live senior reporter Joel Moore, because giving up isn't an option for these families.

The people of Nottingham are probably becoming accustomed to hearing maternity horror stories coming from the city's hospitals. It's a scandal that has rumbled on for many years.

I've been speaking to affected families since starting at Nottinghamshire Live in 2021, when they were calling for an independent review into the ever-growing reports of tragedies.

Since then, they have come a long way. The last time I saw some of them was on the sun-soaked steps of the Hilton Hotel last Thursday, just after a "very positive" meeting with Mr Streeting -........
