Protester admits assaulting EDP reporter outside hotel housing asylum seekers

Stephen Coulman, 53, was told all sentencing options including custody were being considered following the assault at the Brook Hotel in Bowthorpe.

The incident took place on August 24, when Henry Durand, a journalist for this newspaper, was verbally abused and pushed while reporting on demonstrations outside the hotel.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told he had been attempting to speak to protesters when he was surrounded by a large group of people chanting “scum” and “shame on you”.
