The offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 is said to have occurred in Norwich on July 26 last year.

Morley, of Horns Lane in Norwich, also pleaded not guilty at Norwich Magistrates’ Court to having custody of an illegal breed contrary to the Dangerous Dogs Act.

It has been a criminal offence to own an XL Bully without an exemption certificate since legislation was tightened up in February 2024, meaning unregistered pets will be taken and owners possibly fined and prosecuted.

Police in Norfolk seized 45 XL bullies last year.

The case was adjourned for a trial to take place at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on September 11.

Morley was given unconditional bail.

An order was made to appoint solicitors to undertake the cross examination of an expected child witness in the case.
