Clocked! Which Norfolk speed cameras caught 1,800 in just two months?

There were 18 permanent speed camera sites operating on the county’s A roads in January and February together with two sections converted by average speed checks.

The biggest speeding hotspot was Bury Road on the A134 at Thetford where 282 vehicles were photographed passing over the limit.

That fixed camera regularly catches the most speeding drivers. It has recorded the highest numbers of any cameras in Norfolk in each of the last five years - more than 20,000 in total between 2021 and 2025.

Figures from the Norfolk and Suffolk Safety Camera Partnership, which operates the network, show the second highest number clocked in the first two months of 2026 was 174 at Bishop Bridge Road in Norwich.

Also in Norwich, Dereham Road, which has cameras facing in both directions, recorded 159 speeders heading towards the city and 63 driving in the opposite direction towards Costessey.

Other cameras that captured more than 100 in the two months were Mile End Road (169) and Barrett Road (109), both in Norwich, and the A146 at Thurton (137).

In total 1,833 motorists were caught.

Notices of intended prosecution are sent to the last known registered keeper who must respond to say who was driving.

The driver will then get the option of paying the fixed penalty or requesting a court hearing and will automatically be sent an invitation to attend a speed awareness course.

If the speed was significantly over the limit, they will be taken straight to court.

The figures do not include temporary average speed cameras operated by the Highways Authority during dualling work on the A47 and alterations to the Thickthorn roundabout on the A11.
