Report finds nearly a quarter of inmates at Norfolk prison test 'positive for drugs'
An unannounced inspection by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons found 24pc of HMP Norwich prisoners given a random drug test were found positive for illicit substances.
And in their report, officials cited issues with security at the prison gates and a lack of surveillance leaving the facility susceptible to the supply of drugs.
Inmates also said they were easy to obtain, with 43pc claiming to be able to get hold of them. Specific drugs are not cited in the report, and instead are referred to as "illicit substances".

Failings in the prison's open unit, where inmates are allowed out on temporary license, were also highlighted as a concern.
"There were significant weaknesses in physical security, including poor CCTV and no enhanced gate security on the category C site, which left the prison open to the supply of illicit items,” inspectors said.
"Wider security issues included recent release on temporary licence failures from the open unit.
"While these were still under investigation, leaders had taken immediate steps to address the weaknesses."

Inspectors indicated the situation had worsened since their last visit in 2022 as the number of those who said they could easily get drugs had shot up.
Officials added: “Far more men said it was easy to get hold of drugs compared to our last inspection [27pc].
