Rebellious sausage roll lady hangs up her baking gloves... for a year
Jo Taylor, 73, was catapulted into the spotlight upon receiving a food hygiene letter from Norwich City Council for selling her home baked goods at the NR2 Yard Sale last year.
The letter sparked outrage and the rebellious baker was dubbed the sausage roll lady by the wider community.
But this year, Ms Taylor has announced she needs to take a well-earned break from the public eye and will not be selling sausage rolls at the 2026 yard sale.
She said: “The publicity got a bit too much in the end.
“I had people recognising me from the paper.
“Someone could try and fill my place, but they are not having my recipe - that is top secret.
“I just thought I would give it a rest this year.
“I am taking a well-earned rest from the public eye.
“The sausage roll lady will not be returning this year."
But Ms Taylor added defiantly: “This does not mean the jobsworths have won. I still do them for people.
“My sausage rolls may very well return but I cannot promise anything.”
Ms Taylor added she has not made any of her famous pastries since Christmas but still makes them for those who ask.
The baker has received waves of support from the people of Norwich and has also used her profile for good by raising money for charity.
She previously said: "My message to the person who reported me is thank you- because the profile it has given me will help me to raise a lot for charity."
The next NR2 Yard Sale is set to take place July on 18.
