HMO bid sparking uproar among neighbours is pulled

The scheme, lodged with City Hall last year, proposed extending the capacity of the home on Newmarket Road from six to 10 bedrooms, without any construction work being done to the building.

The plans said: "There will be no extension of the building necessary, just utilising the additional rooms that already exist."

However, the scheme was maligned by more than 20 neighbours who shared their concerns with the council, saying the bid to increase the capacity of the home in Poplar Avenue would be a "further danger to pedestrians and other vehicles".

One person said: "Poplar Avenue has been chosen by its residents as a quiet road. The likely increase in traffic is not going to be welcomed.

"In addition, it is already very difficult sometimes to turn right out of the Avenue onto Newmarket Road.

"There is the possibility that at rush hour times the increased volume of traffic could make the manoeuvre dangerous."

The plans have been withdrawn.
