Cabin given the go ahead to be built behind grade II listed site

Regina Nickel, the applicant, handed over the plans in February, which include building a cabin behind Orchard Cottage, a grade II listed building in Tasburgh, where bee colonies are kept.

According to her papers, Ms Nickel wants to use the cabin for research into the early detection of honey bee pests.

In the plans, it says: "The decision to situate the laboratory at the proposed site is directly informed by the operational needs of specialised research taking place there.

"This research, which focuses on the early detection of honey-bee pests and pathogens, requires regular access to bee colonies maintained at Orchard Cottage.

"Locating the laboratory adjacent to the colonies avoids repeated transport of live specimens, reduces biosecurity risks, and supports animal welfare and good research practice."

Planners for South Norfolk Council, who approved the plans, said the development would result in "less than substantial harm to the setting" of the area.
