Who is standing in the 2026 Norwich City Council elections?

A third of the seats at Norwich City Council are up for election on May 7, along with a by-election in Wensum division, which was triggered by the resignation of Green councillor Liam Calvert.

The Greens will be hoping they can take control of the council, which is currently run by Labour.

But Reform UK, who came within one vote of getting their first Norwich city councillor last year, will be hoping to go further this time around.

The Liberal Democrats currently only have representatives in Eaton, while there has not been a Conservative city councillor since 2012.

The elections, which are taking place on the same day as ones for all 84 divisions at Norfolk County Council, will be the last ever for Norwich City Council.

Because of local government reorganisation the city council - and the other seven councils in Norfolk - are being abolished.

They will be replaced by three new unitary councils, which will provide all services in the area they cover.

The new councils are Greater Norwich City Council, West Norfolk Council and East Norfolk Council.

The current political make-up at Norwich City Council is Labour (19), Greens (15), Liberal Democrats (three), one independent and one vacancy.
