Newly-elected Norfolk councillors could scrap 'political assistant' posts

When all 84 councillors - fresh from this month's elections - meet at County Hall on Thursday (May 28) they will decide whether to abolish the roles of political assistants.

Political assistants were introduced to Norfolk County Council in 2001, with the remit to provide support to political groups.

While employed by the council, not political parties, the assistants are directed in their work by the leaders of political groups.
