Cathy Parr, who lives on the outskirts of Norwich, felt something sharp in her mouth when eating her lunch at work last week and immediately threw out all of her salad ingredients as she could not determine which has been contaminated.

She bought fresh ingredients but found glass again and began to suspect her lettuce had not been washed properly, but on closer inspection, Ms Parr could not find anything.

She only discovered the corrupted condiment, which was purchased from the Tesco supermarket in Dereham, was the culprit when spilling some on her worktop - spotting the glass glistening in the white substance.

Ms Parr immediately contacted Tesco to tell them to recall the Lighter Than Light Mayonnaise, which was in a plastic bottle, but she says supermarket officials were "not interested" in her complaint.

She said: "I initially didn't know which component it came from, so I got rid of everything and started again.

"But when I spilt the mayo, there it was.

"I let them know they needed to take my bottle back, but they just gave me the number of my local store and said to take it back.

"They weren't interested in recalling it. I'm not interested in compensation or anything like that, I just want it off the shelves.

"When I took it back the customer service staff even started arguing with me over whether it was glass or plastic.

"But I work on a production line, so I know how this would have happened."

Following her complaint, Ms Parr was sent an email by Tesco with a generic message telling her to return the item to their Blue Boar Lane store in Sprowston for a full refund.

A Tesco spokesman said they were investigating Ms Parr's claim and would speak to its supplier.
