New Delhi: In clinics today, a growing number of young, otherwise healthy professionals describe the same set of symptoms—bloating by mid-day, a burning sensation that comes and goes, unexplained nausea, or a heavy feeling after meals. Many don’t label it as acidity because it doesn’t always look dramatic. Yet what they’re experiencing is something gastroenterologists now see routinely: the modern “office stomach.” This isn’t classic acidity caused by spicy food alone. It’s a quieter cycle driven by stress, caffeine, and erratic eating patterns.

Why acidity looks different now

Traditional acid reflux was predictable—late dinners, heavy meals, lying down too soon. Today’s acidity is subtler and more frequent. Long work hours, constant alerts, and mental pressure keep the digestive system in a near-permanent alert state.........
