Engineering 'trouble' not success: FIITJEE crisis leaves students stranded, hopeless

New Delhi: Hundreds of students have been left in a quandary ahead of their academic exams due to the sudden closure of FIITJEE coaching centres in cities like Delhi and Noida. At least eight FIITJEE coaching centres have been closed due to non-payment of salaries to faculty members. Parents are protesting outside the shut coaching centres, alleging that their wards were left stranded and in extreme mental turmoil because of the manner and the timing of the closure.

The coaching centre primarily deals with two main engineering admissions tests in India, namely the JEE (Mains) and the JEE (Advanced). The Mains is already underway, with six shifts of the test already completed, and five more to go for the academic year 2025. According to a rough estimate nearly 10 lakh students appear for these tests of which, around 79 per cent appear for coaching. A Career360 survey, in 2022, revealed that “79.8 per cent of students who make it to IITs and IIITs and IISERs have joined some coaching from class 11 onwards. Even if half of these students register at FIITJEE for coaching, it takes the number to approximately 4 lakh students enrolled at FIITJEE.

According to a LocalCircles Survey, as FIITJEE centers shut, 58 per cent parents whose wards attend competitive coaching classes report broken promises, trust and transparency issues; 41 per cent also have teacher effectiveness and refund concerns. Here are some of the........
